Production of Ram heavy-duty pickup trucks shifted to America
2017, Ram, Pickup, Truck, Heavy-Duty, American, Michigan
There are a lot of automakers taking heat from the new Trump Administration to start building more of their vehicles in the United States. This is part of the president's agenda to increase the number of American jobs. There has been a lot of push back from some of the industry because they said smaller vehicles won't create any profit because of higher labor rates and climbing regulatory cost in the United State. Sergio Marchionne CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also agreed that bringing all automotive manufacturing back to the U.S from Mexico would cause monumental consequences to the industry.
Last year the FCA imported more than 407,000 vehicles from Mexico last year, with a high percentage being Ram pickup trucks. In a recent talk about policy in Washington earlier this week, the chief executive Sergio Marchionne of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles believes that the FCA could shift those pickups to the United States by 2019 or 2020. He also stated, “The repatriation of the Ram heavy-duty truck is possible,” and “The infrastructure to execute that is in place and, given the right motivation, it could be accomplished quite easily."
Fiat Chrysler announced in early January that it plans to fix up their facilities in Michigan and Ohio. After these upgrades to the plant in Warren, Michigan the facility will be capably of assembling Ram heavy-duty trucks that are currently manufactured in Saltillo, Mexico. This will open up the opportunity of 2,000 jobs for the italian-American company. Fiat Chrysler employs over 11,800 workers in Mexico at their seven manufacturing facilities.

Predictive analytics better for fleet safety
Accident Prevention, Data Analytics, Fleet Industry, Fleet Managers, Fleet Management, Fleet Safety, Predictive Analytics
Automotive-Fleet.com writes about “how analytics will affect fleet safety” and presents perspectives from various industry leaders.
According to Colin Sutherland, Geotab Executive Vice President for Sales and Marketing, “without a doubt, data and the use of it through analytics will drive decisions on the type of vehicle for total cost of ownership depending on how a vehicle is used. Analytics help shape government regulations on consecutive hours of driving, and new ways of raising road tolls for local government.”
Senior Director for Strategic Services at The CEI Group Inc. Brian Kinnery says that there is “growing interest in predictive analytics in the fleet industry.”
“Our model expands the time frame and scope of standard fleet policy prescriptions for assessing risk, and we’ve found that it changes the assessment of many drivers from being among the lower-risk population to a higher risk level. This may well represent the next great leap forward in preventing fleet accidents, because it identifies previously unseen risks and puts fleet in a position to change driver behavior through proactive remedial attention,” Kinnery further states.
Experts note the huge impact that future analytics will have on the fleet industry, when the following changes are put in place:
- Increased focus on preventive and proactive accident management programs
- Ability to respond to problems in real time
- More abundant data from more data points, providing a clearer picture of driver behavior
“Analytics have gone from reactive to somewhat predictive, but there is still more opportunity for knitting data together to produce a more accurate depiction of drive risk. We will also see more standardization across motor companies, making the data easier to consume, analyze and report. We’re already seeing the effect of predictive analytics helping reduce corporate risks and bottom-line costs,” says Peters.

Why Vehicle Graphics Are Important For Your Business
Vehicle Graphics, Graphic Selection, Fleet Identity, Tips and Advice, Graphic Installation, Vendor Selection
Vehicle graphics are integral for any business. They serve a dual purpose: transit advertising and a means of identity for your fleet, if the nature of your business requires transporting or delivering goods.
President and CEO of VSP Marketing Graphics Group Trace George shares some advice on choosing the right graphic company to do the job: “When a fleet desires graphic marketing, etc., it is a good idea to shop for certified graphic companies, as they have a strong backing from each product manufacturer. When a non-certified graphic company is used, it is likely a warranty issue would not be honored by the manufacturer, based on that company not using proper standard installation methods.”
George further recommends: “If your company is testing the waters for fleet graphics, you should do some hardcore homework on economics, fleet requirements, DOT restrictions and marketing comparisons versus other marketing avenues. Most companies enter fleet graphics, advertising and/or marketing without searching for a proper company to assist them with those needs. Look for a company aware of fleet marketing methods.”
SkinzWraps Inc. Director of Operations/Logistics Scott Morrison recommends that the same vehicle type should be purchased for your fleet. He also advises to keep your branding simple.
On selecting the proper materials, technology, price and installation, Signature Graphics Inc. Vice President of Sales Steve Whitaker gives this advice: “Understand your requirements and expectations and hold your provider to the standards you expect, instead of settling for what they want to provide. Utilize your provider’s resources for design, engineering, manufacture, distribution and maintenance. Otherwise, you’ll spend an inordinate amount of time managing your program and spending excessive amount of time, energy and money to get what you want. Use a company that understands your branding objectives and can develop a program to meet or exceed those objectives.”
